This undiscovered gem, also known as Sebino in Italian, is smaller and less well known than the nearby Lake Como but definately just as charming. Lake Iseo is surrounded by beautiful green hills, mountains, medieval castles and extensive vineyards of the famous wine region of Franciacorta. The beautiful landscape around Lake Iseo is ideal for hiking and cycling tours.
The lake has an area of 61.8 km² with many opportunities for water sports, such as surfing and sailing. In the centre of Lake Iseo you will find the largest inhabited (lake) island of Southern Europe, Monte Isola. This island can be reached by boat and is well worth a visit. This island is completely car-free, has a length of 3km and only 2000 inhabitants.
Even in winter, Lake Iseo and its surroundings are still enchantingly beautiful. Who wants to have fun in the snow, has plenty of choice. Locations where you can snowboard, climb, Nordic skiing and sledding are all close to the lake. An absolute must is the Stelvio National Park, north of the lake, on the border of Switzerland and Italy. This park is best known for its excellent skiing possibilities and pistes.
